The stories others overlook are often the ones worth telling.

Will Saulsbery is a Missouri-born author, ghostwriter, and sports writer whose career has been built around finding the people, personalities, and stories hiding beyond the obvious headlines.

Born in St. Louis and a lifelong Missouri resident, Will's connection to the Midwest runs throughout his work. Whether he's digging through more than a century of baseball history, collaborating with a professional athlete on his life story, writing fiction or working behind the scenes as a ghostwriter, his approach remains the same: find what makes a story human and tell it well.

Will has spent more than a decade as a professional ghostwriter, with work appearing in Time, Newsweek, Forbes, Fast Company, The Observer, Entrepreneur and other major publications. That experience has given him a unique perspective as a writer, one shaped not only by telling his own stories, but by helping other people discover and articulate theirs.

Sports have also been a constant throughout his life and career. As a contributor to St. Louis' Scoops Sports Network, Will covers the St. Louis Cardinals, Saint Louis Billikens, Missouri Tigers and Illinois basketball.

In 2025, Will co-wrote You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You with PGA Tour professional Jay Delsing. The book was named runner-up for Sports Book of the Year by the American Writing Awards. That same year, Will released Death in the Midwest, a collection of short stories that showcased another side of his writing and his fascination with life, people, and place in the region he calls home.

His latest book, 50 Forgotten Cardinals, brings many of those threads together.

After diving into more than 140 years of St. Louis Cardinals history, Will turned his attention away from the Hall of Famers and household names and toward the players whose stories had gradually disappeared from the conversation. The result is a collection of 50 lesser-known and sometimes forgotten Cardinals and the remarkable, strange, funny, and unexpected stories they left behind.

With a foreword by legendary Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and praise from Bob Costas and Dan McLaughlin, 50 Forgotten Cardinals is as much about memory, fandom, and the personalities that make baseball special as it is about the game itself.

Will's storytelling doesn't stop with books and sports. Since 2010, he has served as the frontman and principal songwriter for the rock 'n' roll band Money for Guns, which has been recognized as the official St. Louis band of The Tony Kornheiser Show. It's another outlet for the same instinct that drives his writing: observing people, finding the story and turning it into something worth sharing.

Will graduated from the University of Missouri in 2004 with a degree in English. He lives in the St. Louis area with his wife, Selena, their daughter, Sylvie, and their dog Penny and cat Max.
